Introduction: The Cross – A Stumbling Block or a Cornerstone?

Teachings are spreading in the world today, particularly in Colin Tipping's book "Radical Forgiveness," that call for "spiritual evolution" through the "complete rejection of victim consciousness." Some go so far as to call the Sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the Cross "a concept that does not in any way contribute to our spiritual evolution," proposing instead the idea of "transforming the victim archetype."

But what does the Holy Scriptures say about this? How can we explain why the central event of Christianity — the Atoning Sacrifice of Christ — is the only path to true forgiveness and peace with God? And can human efforts replace God's grace?

1. Conflict I: The Purpose of the Sacrifice – Redemption, not an "Archetype"

The teaching in "Radical Forgiveness" about the "victim archetype" attempts to transform Christ's death on the Cross from a unique historical event of salvation into a philosophical symbol or an energetic structure that every person must overcome independently. Such a substitution of essence negates the entire weight of His coming.

What Does Scripture Say?

The Holy Scriptures clearly states: Christ's death was a ransom (Mark 10:45) for the sins of humanity. It was not merely an "example" or a "lesson," but the fulfillment of prophecies and the only condition for restoring the Covenant broken by Adam's sin.

«For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many» (Mark 10:45).

This Sacrifice was necessary because "without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness" (Hebrews 9:22). No human efforts, "consciousness transformations," or rejection of the "victim role" can cancel sin. Only the sinless Blood of Christ can cleanse people from sin.

The Finality of the Sacrifice: Perfect Reconciliation

Christ was not merely a sacrifice, like those offered in the Temple; He was and remains the perfect and final Sacrifice. In the Old Testament, sacrifices were offered again and again because they could not completely destroy sin. But concerning Him, it is said: "He has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself" (Hebrews 9:26). Therefore, there is no need for constant "archetype transformation"; there is only a need for the acceptance of Christ's perfect Sacrifice.

Christ's death brought reconciliation (Romans 5:10). This means that the enmity between God and man, caused by sin, was completely abolished. "Radical Forgiveness" proposes working independently on relationships with the "Higher Self"; the Bible, however, offers the restoration of relationships with the Father through the Blood of Christ. This is not a philosophical exercise; it is a cosmic exchange, where humanity's sin was placed upon Christ, and His righteousness was granted to believers.

2. Conflict II: Forgiveness – From God, not from the "Rejection of Victim Consciousness"

The book "Radical Forgiveness" claims that "True forgiveness means the complete rejection of victim consciousness," and that "victims, as such, do not exist."

This teaching is dangerous because it denies the reality of evil and places all responsibility for spiritual healing solely on the person themselves, ignoring the need for God's help.

What Does Christ Say?

Christ taught that in the world, people would persecute His followers and do them harm.

«In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world» (John 16:33).

The true power of forgiveness is given not through denying that one has been offended (i.e., that they were a "victim"), but through the acceptance of Christ's grace and following His example (1 Peter 2:21).

  1. Forgiveness — is an act of will, when the believer, through the power of the Holy Spirit, decides to let go of the offense and not seek revenge.

  2. Peace — is the result of forgiveness, which frees the heart from bitterness.

This forgiveness comes from the Heavenly Father and is a gift that must be received by faith, not earned through self-transformation.

The Main Lesson of the Lord's Prayer ("Our Father")

Christ gave the Lord's Prayer as a model for communication with the Father. In it, people ask: «And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors» (Matthew 6:12).

This is not just a formula; it is a spiritual law. Jesus Himself explained it immediately after the Prayer: «For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses» (Matthew 6:14-15).

Thus, forgiveness from the Father depends on one's willingness to forgive others. This rejects the idea that forgiveness is a mechanical "self-healing" or "consciousness transformation," as in "Radical Forgiveness." Biblical forgiveness is a consequence of having been forgiven by Christ, as stated: «bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do» (Colossians 3:13).

True, biblical forgiveness is following Christ's example and fulfilling His command, not a rejection of the "victim role." The Apostle Paul taught: «And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you» (Ephesians 4:32).

The Reality of Suffering and Taking Up the Cross

To deny that someone can be a victim of evil or injustice is to deny the very essence of human experience after the Fall. Christ Himself knows what it is to be a victim — He was betrayed, persecuted, unjustly judged, and crucified. He did not deny suffering. Instead, He taught how to overcome it.

A true follower does not "reject victim consciousness" as a kind of "low vibration," but takes up their cross. "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me" (Matthew 16:24). This is not a call to masochism, but a call to humility and compassion with Christ. It is not about "denying the existence of victims," but about transforming pain into strength through His presence and the ability to forgive "seventy times seven" (Matt. 18:22).

3. Conflict III: The Foundation of Faith – Resurrection, not "Evolution"

If Christ's Sacrifice, as "Radical Forgiveness" claims, was merely an "archetype" that needs to be "transformed," then the Resurrection also becomes not the central event of salvation, but simply a "spiritual lesson." This completely destroys the apostolic teaching, reducing it from reality to fiction.

«And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty and your faith is also empty» (1 Corinthians 15:14).

Christ's Sacrifice is not an obstacle to "spiritual evolution"; it is its only possibility. Thanks to the Blood shed on the Cross, a person receives:

  • New Birth (John 3:3) – instead of gradual "evolution."

  • The right to be children of God (John 1:12) – instead of self-improvement.

  • Complete Justification (Romans 5:1) – instead of constant suffering from the influence of "archetypes."

New Birth vs. Gradual Development

The book "Radical Forgiveness" promotes the idea of a gradual, "evolutionary" change of consciousness through human efforts. The biblical teaching, however, speaks of New Birth — a radical, instant change that occurs by the Spirit, not by the flesh. Christ told Nicodemus: "Unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God" (John 3:3). This is not "evolution"; it is regeneration.

If salvation is "spiritual evolution," as the book claims, then it depends on human "works" (deeds). But Scripture teaches: "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God" (Ephesians 2:8). By attempting to "transform the archetype," a person relies on their own perfection. By relying on the Resurrection, they rest in Christ's perfect righteousness, received without merit. The Resurrection is proof that Christ's redemptive plan was completed and successful.

Conclusion: Returning to the Truth of the Cross

The teaching that rejects Christ's Sacrifice as the only path to salvation and instead offers human techniques of "transformation" or "rejection of victim consciousness" conflicts with the Bible and is a false teaching, as it leads people away from Christ, who is:

«I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me» (John 14:6).

Final Warning about the "Other Gospel"

Christ's Apostles warned about the danger of substituting the Gospel, which is based on grace, with human philosophies:

«But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed» (Galatians 1:8).

Every teaching that attempts to replace the Cross with esoteric "archetypes" is another gospel that has no power to save. It offers to dig a well, but Christ's Sacrifice is the living water that springs from the depths of His heart.

Therefore, one should not seek detours or "transformations," but come to Christ, according to His invitation: «Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest» (Matthew 11:28). One should not try to "heal" past traumas or "transform" consciousness independently through constant self-work. Christ paid the price. One needs to rest in His finished work. Only then will a person find true forgiveness, which does not deny the pain but heals it. Accepting Christ, the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world (Bible), is the only path to salvation, true peace, and eternal life.
